How would you describe Syfyfangrrls, Legion of Women, and The Churn, for those who are not familiar with your work?

  • Syfyfangrrls: Initially started as a Google Hangout where, once a month, we would discuss some Sci-fi topics. The quality soon became inconsistent and change followed! I wanted to do something, but it needed to be more. Female leadership sucked, and there were no female-centric geek-site that spoke the language of many people. I wanted to create a space where there were no rules, or criteria, to be part of it. We post four unique posts a months and it is the fastest growing section on the site. It is funny-smart, a space where we celebrate creations and fandoms. We break things down in fandoms, make people laugh and give them interesting perspectives on different things. Our voices are feminist and liberal. We want to represent every type of fan,  we want them to feel equal, and most importantly we want it to be a conversation.

  • The Churn: This is the podcast show of the expanse where Ty and Daniel (writers of The Expanse most commonly known as James S. A. Corey, interview with Cher. I can confirm that Adam is a fan of Steven not his abs, Ty is a ball buster, and Daniel is a sweetheart!

  • Legion of Women: Legion started as a conversation slack channel. We would vent about geek journalism, warn each other, vouching for one another, helping people get jobs, helping editors, and also providing resources for female writers (ie. How to interview, mentorship opportunities). It soon became a network where women worked and helped other women.  We wanted to build a team for writers.

When it comes to the industry my advise is to be bold and just do it! The worst is that you failed, but you get up and keep moving

What was your experience as a woman in Science Fiction?

  • I had to always deal with sexism. If there is something I can say is to always be honest and never be afraid to tell someone to fuck off when you aren't being treated the way you should be treated. It is important to feel strong, and even though my experienced have helped me grow a thick skin, it is important to have resilience. In this industry there will always be commentators, people wanting you to crack. The stuff people would say, and still say, is awful and offensive. So overall, be strong, hold your grown and don't let people prevent you from doing what you love to do.

Who is your celebrity crush?

  • Dave Grohl, Keanu Reeves, Chris Cornell, and Colin Farrell. I have a style!

What would be your one super power? Who is your favourite superhero/heroine?

  • Superpower:  Invisibility at the moment, also the power to subway! That would be so that the subway shows up at the station as soon as i need it!

  • Superheroine: Wonder Woman!

What was the first SyFy movie/series that got you hooked into the genre?

  • Movie: Star Wars

  • Series: Muppet show! Specifically Muppets In Space

What gravitated you to The Expanse?

  • My set visit! I had no previous knowledge before it, hadn't read the books, but I wanted to know what the show was all about because of all the good things I had heard about it! When I went to set Daniel and Ty were on set and I hit it off with Ty. The set was AMAZING!

Are you a Belter, Martian or Earther?

  • Belters are dirty, Martian have their sh*t together, and Earthers are Earthers. I think I' an Earther and Belter, I like their gritty, tattoos of the Belters. I like the survival instinct of the Belters! Earther are like the rebellion and the evil empire. There's a bit of that in everyone.

Which character do you relate to the most? Why?

  • Naomi because she is surrounded by a bunch of guys, she takes a motherly role, but also has to be one of them. Oh! Also Avasarala! She's a f*cking queen, and my twitter handle is The Cherness, so that says a lot! We also take sh*t from no one!
